Disclaimer

The standard terms behind every page, template, video, and email.

Educational Purpose Only

The NonDē Filmmaking Legal Lab is an educational resource and does not constitute legal advice. All materials — including contract templates, video walkthroughs, Substack posts, and this website — are intended as drafting tools for independent filmmakers, not as a substitute for advice from your own attorney about your specific project.

No Attorney-Client Relationship

Accessing this site, watching videos, receiving email communications, subscribing to the Substack, joining the Vault, or downloading templates does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and M.P. Rekola or The NonDē Filmmaking Legal Lab. You are not a client unless and until a separate, written engagement agreement says otherwise.

Jurisdiction & Local Counsel

These materials are drafted based on general principles of U.S. contract and entertainment law. Laws regarding copyright, contracts, securities, and production vary by state and country. Always consult qualified local counsel licensed in your jurisdiction before relying on any template for an actual production.

Not Investment or Securities Advice

Content touching on private placement memoranda, Regulation D offerings, or investor financing is provided for general educational purposes only. It is not investment advice, securities law advice, or an offer to sell securities. Whether a specific document or structure is right for your raise depends entirely on the facts of your offering and should be evaluated with qualified securities counsel.

Not Accounting or Financial Advice

Content touching on production budgeting, recoupment waterfalls, or financial structuring is educational only — not accounting, tax, or financial advice, and does not describe the terms of any individual engagement.

Use at Your Own Risk

By using any material from this site, you acknowledge that you are doing so at your own risk. The NonDē Filmmaking Legal Lab assumes no liability for errors, omissions, or legal consequences arising from the use of any template, guide, or document found here.

“Lifetime” Access Defined

Wherever this site, its emails, or its social posts say “lifetime,” “yours for good,” “no renewal,” or anything similar about Vault access, it means this: access for the lifetime of M.P. Rekola, beginning on your purchase date and ending on his death. It does not mean your lifetime, and it is not a perpetual license. It is a one-time payment: there is no annual fee, renewal, or re-purchase while access lasts.

Access may end sooner if you breach these terms or if the hosting platform becomes unavailable. When access ends, you are not owed a refund or credit for the unused time.

Refunds

No refunds on digital access: the Vault’s files are delivered immediately upon purchase, so every sale is final.

FTC Disclosure & Testimonials

M.P. Rekola owns and earns money from The NonDē Filmmaking Legal Lab, the Vault, and the film projects promoted on this site, including Burying Doris. When this site, its emails, or its social posts recommend those products, that is promotion of the author’s own work. Any link or recommendation that earns a commission or free product is disclosed where it appears.

Reviews and testimonials come from real customers describing their own experiences. They are not guarantees. Your results will vary and depend on your project, your facts, and how you use these materials. Nothing here promises any legal, financing, distribution, or financial outcome.

Template License

Templates are licensed to you for your own productions and business use. You may not resell, redistribute, publish, or share the templates, the videos, or your Vault login with anyone else. Templates are provided “as is” and may be out of date: laws change, and no template fits every deal. Have a licensed attorney review any document before you sign it.

Contributions Are Not Investments

Money given toward Burying Doris or any other film project on this site is a voluntary contribution, not an investment, loan, or purchase of securities. It carries no ownership, profit share, or expected return, and the project may change, be delayed, or not be completed.

How the Templates Are Made (and Where AI Comes In)

Every template in the Vault starts from real documents I use in my own productions and business. I use AI tools while drafting, and every finished contract is run through AI to check for errors, gaps and typos before it goes live. Because of that, some documents may carry markers or watermarks from those tools. The clauses come from my real working documents; AI is a drafting and proofreading aid, not the source. As with everything here, have your own attorney review a document before you sign it.

Privacy Policy

This is how The NonDē Filmmaking Legal Lab (run by M.P. Rekola, “I” or “me”) collects, uses and protects your information across nondefilmlawlab.com (also reachable at nonde.purpleturret.com), the Vault, the help desk and the emails I send. Questions or requests: info@rekolastudios.com.

What I collect

  • When you buy: checkout runs through Purpleturret and Stripe. I receive your email, the price you chose, and the country and state on your payment. I never see or store your card number.
  • When you tick the two boxes before checkout: the time, the exact wording you agreed to, the price you picked, your device type (phone, tablet or computer) and how you reached the site. This is my record that you agreed. It doesn't include your name or email until it's matched to your payment.
  • When you ask for help: your name, email, whether you said you're a member, your topic, your question, any link you share, and our messages back and forth. Each request gets a private page link; anyone with that link can see it, so don't share it.
  • When you sign the Lab release: eSignatures.com collects your name, email, mobile number (to text you a 6-digit code that confirms it's you), any company name it asks for, and your signature. I keep your name, email, mobile number and a link to the signed PDF.
  • When someone names you as their Producer's Pass guest: the name and email they typed, and who named you. I use it only to send you that gift. Reply STOP to that email and I'll delete it.
  • When you join the free list or the Vault's Substack: Substack collects your email and handles those emails under its own policy. I add Vault buyers to the private Substack by hand.
  • When you visit: my own analytics, hosted on Cloudflare, count page views and taps. They record the page, the link or ad tag that sent you, your rough city and country, and your device type. To count visitors without cookies, your IP address and browser are turned into a code that changes every day; the IP address itself is never stored. The site keeps where you came from in your browser's session storage until you close the tab.

Advertising and the Meta Pixel

I run ads on Instagram and Facebook. Purpleturret, which hosts this site and its checkout, runs the Meta Pixel on these pages. The Pixel uses cookies and similar technology to tell Meta that you visited or bought, so I can measure my ads and show them to people likely to care. Meta handles that data under its own policy. You can limit it in your Facebook and Instagram ad settings (Accounts Center → Ad preferences), with your browser's cookie settings, or with your phone's “limit ad tracking” setting.

How I use it

  • To deliver what you bought, add you to the Vault's Substack, and send your welcome email.
  • To answer your help questions, and to send you my replies.
  • To keep records of purchases, agreements and signed releases.
  • To understand which pages, posts and ads bring people in, and to improve the site.

I don't sell your personal information, and I don't use your personal information to train AI. I may use AI tools to help draft or proofread my answers to help requests; when I do, I leave out your name and contact details.

Who else handles it

  • Cloudflare — hosts the Lab's server, database and analytics.
  • Purpleturret — hosts the website and checkout, runs the Meta Pixel, and loads Google’s web font service on each page.
  • Stripe — processes payments.
  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram) — ad measurement through the Pixel.
  • Resend — sends the Lab's emails (welcome emails, help replies, guest gifts).
  • eSignatures.com — the Lab release, including the text-message check.
  • Substack — the free list and the Vault's private newsletter.
  • Loom, YouTube and Vimeo — videos embedded on pages and in help answers.
  • Senja — the reviews shown on the site.
  • Google — the calendar used to book Strategy Sessions, and the web fonts Purpleturret loads.

Each of these providers handles data under its own privacy policy. Some of them are in the United States, so your information may be processed there.

How long I keep it

  • Help requests: deleted automatically two years after they're closed.
  • Visit analytics: deleted automatically after about 13 months (400 days).
  • Purchases and agreement records: kept for as long as your Vault access lasts, plus as long as tax and accounting rules require.
  • Signed releases: kept as the legal record of your agreement.
  • Producer's Pass guest details: kept while the guest has Vault access, or deleted sooner if you reply STOP.

Your choices and rights

You can ask me to show you, correct, or delete the information I hold about you. The easiest way is the help desk: pick “Delete my data” (you won't be asked to sign anything for that). Or email info@rekolastudios.com. When I delete your data, I remove your help requests and contact details. I keep the bare purchase record (amount, date and place) that tax rules require, and any signed release, because that's the legal record of what you agreed to. To leave Substack, use the unsubscribe link in any of its emails.

Depending on where you live, including the UK, the EU and some U.S. states, you may have additional rights, such as objecting to certain uses or complaining to your local data protection authority. I use your information to deliver what you asked for, to keep required records, and for my legitimate interest in running and improving the Lab and its ads.

Security

The Lab's backend is private and protected by a sign-in that pauses after repeated wrong attempts. Help request pages use long private links. No method of storing data online is perfect, but I keep what I collect to what the Lab needs.

Children

The Lab is for working filmmakers and isn't directed to children. I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent me information, contact me and I'll delete it.

Changes to These Terms

This page may be updated at any time. The version posted here when you use the site or buy is the one that applies to that use or purchase.
